Robbie Bach Talks, Engadget Listens
by JonBot on Oct.12, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“We’re currently at a multi-purpose Microsoft event right now — an event touring the company’s holiday lineup, as well as today’s launch of Windows phone devices (AKA, Windows Mobile 6.5). We had a chance to sit down with Robbie Bach, President of Microsoft’s Entertainment & Devices Division, and ask him some questions about where the big M is headed with its recent lineup.”

While the conversation with Robbie Bach had some interesting points on Windows Mobile and Windows Phones in general, in light of the recent Sidekick fiasco, I found the following point slightly ironic:
Peter Rojas asks about the company’s acquisition of Danger. Robbie: “There were clear reasons for us to acquire Danger — I think in time that will pan out. It… Continue reading

HD2’s First Official Appearance?
by JonBot on Oct.07, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“We’ve been furnished with the above page from an O2 in-store catalog detailing the HTC HD2 (aka Leo), which was set for a UK release on October 12 (though we’re hearing that may have slipped to the 26th). Interesting that it’s pictured with a stock Windows Mobile 6.5 UI instead of TouchFLO 3D.”

HD2, the name now popular for the Leo, appears to be on track for O2 UK – including this possible catalog image that’s leaked out. Looks good for my friends across the pond to pick one of these up soon, if they so desire.

HTC Imagio Drops on Verizon Tomorrow
by JonBot on Oct.05, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“Although not a soul alive is shocked by the news, today Verizon Wireless announced it will be releasing the HTC Imagio – its first Windows Mobile 6.5 device – online starting October 6th. The Imagio, known to most by its codename Whitestone, will feature the following key specs: 3.6″ WVGA touchscreen display (resistive, of course), 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, Wi-Fi, EV-DO Rev. A, quad-band EDGE and 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA for international roaming”

Tomorrow is the big day for those of you cursed with Verizon’s fee-loving wireless service. If you want, you can own a HTC Imagio! The 5 MP camera makes for a nice digital camera quick-replacement, and at least with Big V’s service you should have coverage in pretty much any rural… Continue reading
NuevaSync Adds Task Sync Support!
by JonBot on Oct.01, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“To sync tasks you need a compatible device (iPhones don’t have tasks support yet but Windows Mobile, Nokia and Palm Pre phones do). Register for a Toodledo account (free or pro). Enable and configure tasks on our web site—enter your Toodledo username and password.”

A few months ago I wrote about NuevaSync’s Push GMail Solution which beat out Google’s official support for GMail through Exchange ActiveSync by quite a few months. Now that Google has caught up, NuevaSync has again decided to up the ante by adding Tasks support! The catch is – the tasks sync isn’t with Google Tasks (Since it’s pretty bare bones and doesn’t have a published API), it’s with a task managing service named Toodledo!
I hadn’t… Continue reading
HD2, HTC Leo, Launches on O2 on October 12
by JonBot on Sep.28, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“A trusted tipster with a proven past just gave us the launch day scoop on the hotly anticipated HTC Leo. A Windows Mobile 6.5 handset we recently spied with HD2 branding and a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 800×480 resolution — a pixel density that should give plenty of room for finger-friendly TouchFlo 3D navigation”

Looks like the Leo, or the HD2, or whatever it wants to call itself, may be showing up in the UK as early as October 12. Those on O2 may want to be aware if they’re interested in replacing an aging device. Or just want another one to play with!
UPDATE: And MAN is that thing fast! Engadget reported yesterday that benchmarks are showing it to… Continue reading
Omnia beyond Omnia II
by JonBot on Sep.23, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“Within the OmniaPRO lineup, the OmniaPRO B7610 is the premium device, featuring a high-resolution 3.5 inch AMOLED display and QWERTY keyboard. The OmniaPRO B7320 and OmniaPRO B7330 will target businessmen with a QWERTY keyboard and email/wireless internet capabilities. The OmniaPRO B7330 will feature HSDPA 7.2 Mps, HSUPA 2.0 Mps and Windows Mobile 6.5, providing the most versatile option for emailing and wireless internet use. Rounding out the new series, the OmniaLITE will have a user-friendly interface and various multimedia functions for younger users.”

Samsung is seriously pumped over the Omnia brand, and is launching not 1, not 2, but 3 more Omnias after the Omnia II. With 5 Omnia’s to chose from, it’s a bit overwhelming. Check out their site for… Continue reading
Whitestone Becomes Imagio
by JonBot on Sep.21, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“Two juicy nuggets emerged this morning from the Boy Genius Report’s ninjas regarding the HTC Whitestone, the sort-of-but-not-really successor to the HTC Touch Diamond (insofar as it’s a black slab sans keyboard): 1. Henceforth it shall be called the Verizon Imagio. (Sounds more like a “Harry Potter” spell, but whatever.) 2. It’ll be released as part of the Oct. 6 Super Duper Windows Mobile 6.5 launch day.”

The Whitestone looks like a nice device for those of you stuck on a carrier that hates carrying nice phones. Any Verizon-ites trading in something old and dusty for an Imagio?
