My first “lots of pieces” pattern, and the first pattern I bought at a festival (Fiber Fun in the ‘Sip 2018). Here’s a bit of background.

In my “day job”, I co-exist as a full time assistant professor, and part time retention program coordinator. Our Student Success Center goes all out during “Pre-Registration” week, including covering the campus in orange signs and driving around shouting to students to pre-register that week for a chance to win prizes (and, ya know, get the classes they want before they fill up). I thought “Wouldn’t it be fun to have a little mascot of my own for Pre-Registration week. And PreRegistrarrr was born!

He took just over a month to complete, and his little scarf took a few days extra (Started Saturday morning, finished Monday evening, perhaps 10-15 hours total). The scarf wasn’t in the pattern - it’s based off of the Double Seed Stitch scarf pattern you can find here. Although in this case, I adapted it to have 2 knit stitches at the ends of rows 3 & 4 instead of 1. I also found a very excellent video online on Speed Knitting and Speed Purling. While I already “speed knit” based on that video’s definition, I hadn’t seen Speed Purling before (or a variation of Norwegian Purl). Prior to that I’d sworn I would never seed stitch because it would just take too long to keep moving my yarn back and forth. However with the video’s “Speed Purling” method, I was able to do a row of 25 sts in about 90 seconds!

Anyway, PreRegistrarrr is mostly finished now that he has his scarf. I do have a few little touches to add (a few more buttons and pins). He will live in my office at work, and I threaten to make students who don’t pre-register apologize to him when they come in at the last minute to register for classes!

The tummy looked a little bit large before sewing up, so I believe this may be a she, In case she gets pregnant at some point :)
