Sony Ericsson Faith Spotted

by JonBot on Jan.14, 2010, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“Wait a minute … What’s this? An unannounced Sony Ericsson phone called “Faith?” DailyiPhoneBlog says it’s part of SE’s “GreenHeart” line (read: environmentally friendly)”

Nothing too remarkable in the Specs on this new Sony Ericsson device, save for the fact it will have Windows Mobile 6.5.3, which accounts for the UI changes on the home screen in the shot above I believe.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 Hands On

by JonBot on Sep.09, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“Here it is, folks. Sony Ericsson’s newly official XPERIA X2 in the flesh. It’s got a flashy (gimmicky?) home screen, along with a view for “snacking” on bubbled-up information. Lots of buzzwords, but we’ll need more time hands-on to know how we feel. The hardware? It’s still a heavy beast, but perhaps just a bit more loving in this incarnation. We don’t love the resistive touchscreen one bit.”

For those of you interested in Sony Ericsson’s latest Windows Phone incarnation, check out Engadget’s post complete with gallery and video. They don’t sound like big fans of the device, so feel free to post here and let us know if you are (or if you agree with them!)

Xperia X2 Pictured in Silver

by JonBot on Jun.12, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“Reaction to the rumored X2 pictures leaked this far has been lukewarm at best, but hold up — it’s looking a whole lot different (and arguably better) in silver. We can certainly buy that this is dead-on real, since… well, it looks real, and also because the X1′s also available in both shades.”

Xperia leaks and news just keep coming out. And today we get to see the proported silver version of the X2. Looks promising!

Xperia X2 Specs?

by JonBot on Jun.08, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“If these specs are accurate the device would seem to be rather feature pack and correct much of the issues people had with the original Xperia. In fact, one could say the only thing holding back this device is its rather 90′s looks.”

Xperia rumors, gossip, and supposed shots and specs abound the last few days. Anyone looking to help out Sony Ericsson’s financial situation by purchasing one of these if/when/however it becomes available?

Is This The X2?

by JonBot on Jun.05, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“A tipster tells us that the device you’re looking at here is Sony Ericsson’s codename “Vulcan” — better known as the X2 — which would presumably replace the X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture’s small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone’s front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard…”

Hmm, Engadget seems to have a line on a possible successor to the X1. Time will tell with more details, so for now file this under “pretty picture” and “nice rumor”.

i-mate Jumps on Alternate UI Bandwagon

by Jon Westfall on Dec.12, 2008, under Windows Phone Thoughts

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008…e-61-i-mate-go/

“First things first… It’s no TouchFLO 3D. Ok, now that we have that out of the way we do have to say that we’re happy to see another company making an effort to tidy up the Windows Mobile UI a tad. Who knows how far away we really are from Windows Mobile 7 becoming a reality and in the meantime, even many Windows Mobile die hards seem to be losing patience with the very dated look of the OS. Samsung, HTC and Sony Ericsson aren’t the only companies attempting to bandage their mobile OS of choice however, as i-mate has just announced its “i-mate Go” UI. No, it’s not the catchiest name in the game, but those of you looking for high visibility and simple design for your i-mate UI should be pleased. i-mate Go is powered by VITO Winterface of course, a Windows Mobile UI enhancement that essentially started as an iPhone rip off and evolved into a slightly less obvious iPhone rip off.”

Well, it isn’t at all unexpected to see an alternate UI for Windows Mobile these days, which in itself is a bit sad. However, looking on the bright side, I suppose this truly signifies that i-mate is not dead, after struggling with the loss of HTC provided handsets. Still, I’d rather have one nice UI, rather than a patchwork of “improved” UIs floating around.

Sony Ericcson Xperia Finally For Sale

by Jon Westfall on Oct.14, 2008, under Windows Phone Thoughts

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/…nboxed-at-last/

“Wow, that was one hell of a wait, wasn’t it? Some eight months after its February announcement, X1s are finally available for sale in some parts of the world — and naturally, any retail availability comes with the distinct possibility of a properly-documented unboxing. The packing materials don’t look like they’re anything terribly special, but to the Windows Mobile faithful of the world, the contents certainly are. Ain’t that black, brushed metal casing awfully purdy?”

Holy Xperia News Batman! The Xperia is starting to make the rounds as an actual, real device that you could order (You know, as opposed to one of those announced yet not in your hands yet devices). Engadget has a couple of pieces on it, and Phonescoop specifically is interested in the possibility of different versions of the X1. I suppose it’s only a matter of time before we see real reviews start to come through the wires!

Sony Ericsson Releases Xperia Panel Interface SDK

by Jon Westfall on Sep.04, 2008, under Windows Phone Thoughts

http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/03/…anel-interface/

“We know what you’re thinking — it’s Windows Mobile 6.1 fool, we’ve got the developers kit already. True, but not the SDK that allows developers to create custom, interactive panels for the touchscreen QWERTY’s Panel Interface. Sony Ericsson claims that, “The Xperia X1 will offer the richest mobile user experience, putting the world at the fingertips of the user.” In other words, the expectations have been set, developers, so you’d best get to downloading the free SDK — you’ve got your work cut out for you. Sony Ericsson will offer a panel download service in the future, showcasing all the panels built by you, Google, and other partners.”

The Xperia may run Windows Mobile 6.1, but it’s panel interface isn’t a stock item from Microsoft and thus isn’t covered under the regular SDKs released by Microsoft. Thankfully Sony Ericcson has made a SDK available so coders can get busy with Xperia apps taking advantage of the panel.

Gutsy Gibbon Goes Mobile and Embedded

by Jon Westfall on Jun.21, 2007, under Windows Phone Thoughts

“Those of you disappointed by the “top secret” features of Leopard might want to cast your hopeful, wayward glances in the direction of Ubuntu. Here comes “Gutsy Gibbon,” otherwise known as Ubuntu 7.10 whose feature-set now appears finalized with a planned October release just like Apple’s big cat. Pumping the 2.6.22 Linux kernel at its core, Gutsy G will be the first Ubuntu release to include new Mobile and Embedded editions “targeted at hand-held devices and other mobile/embedded form factors.” It will integrate the Hildon UI components developed by Nokia and already on display in their N800 tablet. In other words, that Sony Ericsson P990i we saw running Ubuntu likely wasn’t a hoax after all.”

Ubuntu is, without a doubt, a great geek tool to play with (and actually get work done with). With Gutsy, the next major planned release, supporting hand-held devices (or at least making support easier than it has been), it’s tempting to break out older devices and give them a new linux face. Hopefully this will be an option in the near future, thanks to the planned improvements and (I’m sure) ingenious coders that will make it happen. After all, if I can just get my Beryl effects on my Jasjar, I can kick some serious iPhone butt in the graphics department Smile
