AT&T Announces Pure and Tilt 2!
by JonBot on Oct.06, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“AT&T* and HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile phones, today announced the upcoming availability of the HTC TiltTM 2 and the HTC PURETM with Windows® Mobile 6.5. The HTC PURE delivers a touch screen experience in an alluring, compact form factor, and the HTC Tilt 2 features the convenience of a tilting touch screen combined with the practicality of a slide out full QWERTY keyboard.”

Ah, AT&T is announcing two great Windows Phone offerings, the Pure (The HTC Touch Diamond 2) and the Tilt 2 (The HTC Touch Pro 2). Who knows what’s pure about a Touch Diamond, or why we didn’t see a crazy new name similar to “Fuze” (Perhaps the “Cerket Braker” or “Swich”), and I’m sure these two new… Continue reading
About Microsoft’s Marketplace Kill Switch
by JonBot on Sep.20, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“We have a bit of troubling news from Windows world today as a developer in attendance at Microsoft’s Tech.Ed New Zealand has relayed some interesting tidbits. Regarding the “Windows Marketplace for Mobile” – Microsoft’s version of the Apple App Store – Microsoft has confirmed the existence of a ‘kill switch’ for apps. In the event an approved app is later removed from the Marketplace, the app will also automatically be removed from users’ handsets. We’re not sure what this means for paid apps, though we doubt refunds will be issued automatically as well”
Boy Genius report is skeptical that refunds would be given if MS decided to drop the app kill hammer, however other reports such as… Continue reading
NVidia’s Tegra Coming From a Top 5
by JonBot on Jul.01, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“If you want to get HD in your handheld, NVIDIA’s Tegra processor is the hot way to do it at the moment, and we’ve got reasonably concrete sounding rumors from disparate sources that a handset containing one of the chips is currently under development by a “top five” smartphone builder (we’re guessing it’s not Apple)”

What really is a “top 5″ manufacturer? Is this sorted alphabetically? If so then I really need to get my “AAAdvantage Manufacturing” subsidary up and running… All kidding aside, NVidia’s Tegra may be an interesting addition with Windows Mobile rumors swimming around it.
This was originally posted at Pocket PC Thoughts, check out the the source for discussion… Continue reading
Half Baked Better Than Stagnant?
by JonBot on May.21, 2009, under Windows Phone Thoughts
Remember my little rant a few weeks ago? Well, if you know anyone on the Google side (Android), you can tell them that the lamentations they’ve been emitting can now be silenced. Google fixed the Marking Items Read issue. They write:
For those of you with Android phones, we’ve also fixed a particularly annoying bug that led to items not being marked as read correctly.
So that’s nice, they fixed a problem and even blogged about it to let us know. This little blog post, though, did more than inform me about a bug fix – it further annoyed me at the current state of Windows Mobile. My gripe today boils down to one thing: speed. Not speed of the operating system, but speed of the… Continue reading
Android and iPhone Cage Match Next Week?
by Jon Westfall on Sep.18, 2008, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“An invitation sent out on Tuesday by T-Mobile asks the media to gather next week to see the first phone built on the Android mobile platform, but will also pit Apple and Google against each other — if reluctantly.”

You mean they’re actually going to release this eternally leaked device sometime? Whoa! So press conference next week, and rumors of late October release. Perhaps Android will finally make it out of rumor and into consumer’s hands.

Apple No Like Your Application… Apple Smash!
by Jon Westfall on Aug.07, 2008, under Windows Phone Thoughts
“By now, we’re well aware that Apple can make apps vanish without a trace (or explanation) from the App Store. But Jonathan Zdziarsi, the author of iPhone Forensics, says that Apple can actually remotely disable apps installed on your iPhone. Apparently, there’s a blacklist URL in the iPhone’s OS that he says “suggests that the iPhone calls home once in a while to find out what applications it should turn off.”
So while Apple hasn’t disabled anything they don’t like to date (such as NetShare), this suggests that there are ways that Big Fruity can take you down a notch or two application wise (yea yea, I know – it’s meant to disable malware… but that doesn’t limit it to just malware!).
But then again, cool people respect… Continue reading
