Forcibly Removing Active Directory From A DC PDF Print E-mail
User Rating: / 0
http://www.petri.co.il/forcibly_removing_active_directoy_from_dc.htm

Daniel Petri has published a great write-up on forcily removing AD from a DC using dcpromo. If I had had this informtion about 2 weeks ago, I would have gotten more sleep during the migration! I was forced to use ntdsutil to transfer all AD roles to the DC in question, then delete out all other DCs in the domain. Ugh. Any AD techies out there, enjoy.

Cavs Frickin' Win Eastern Finals PDF Print E-mail

As a Cleveland sports fan, I'm shocked. This just doesn't happen to Cleveland - we always lose. How we won this time is beyond me, but I'm not unhappy with it. Now on to the Spurs, who (again) are supposed to kill us. I'm happy with the conference, but I'd be even more happy if the Spurs and Cavs go to game 5 and beyond!

All About Application Locking PDF Print E-mail
User Rating: / 0
"Some non-touchscreen Windows Mobile devices ship with a set of security policies that prevents developers from adding their own codesigning certificates. I don't know of any touchscreen devices that ship like that - it's possible to configure those devices to be locked down but none ship like that by default as far as I know. For some of these devices, it's possible to tweak the security policies via supported methods so you can install development certs, debug, and develop privileged applications. Internally we call this "the user is manager" meaning that the user has the ability to freely modify any software setting on the phone. In this post I'll describe how to figure out the security policies on your device and how to figure out if you are "application locked" or not."

One of those wonderful features of non-touchscreen windows mobile devices (Remember, we used to call those "Smartphones") is the ability for OEMs to really lock down the phone from outside software vendors. This Windows Moble Team Blog post talks a bit about this locking system and how Developers can deal with it in their own applications.

Ever Get "Dumb-Phone" Envy? PDF Print E-mail
User Rating: / 0
With the ever increasing presence of Windows Mobile Phone Editions (i.e. when was the last time you heard of a new device that didn't include a phone?), most of us are making our way from the unconverged world to the glory that is a PDA and phone married. However, this also means we're giving up traditional cell phones that most of our friends still use. With technology getting better and smaller, some of these "dumb-phones" are starting to look rather attractive. They're small, they have keyboards or MP3 players built in, and a plethora of accessories can be found for them at most electronics retailers. By comparison, our phones can look fairly plain, despite their advanced abilities.

Have you ever thought "Gee, I wish that phone was a windows mobile" or "Hmm, that phone doesn't look too bad" when gazing about the latest offerings of "dumb-phones"? If so, which ones caught your eye? Who knows, maybe some of the features we envy in those devices will one day be integrated into ours Smile
